Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I see a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon rather than a dermatologist or primary care physician who practices plastic surgery?
Patients should be aware that not all physicians who perform plastic surgery are true Plastic Surgeons! Any physician can receive cosmetic surgery training, but Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons meet stringent standards of excellence and are trained in ALL aspects of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

What is the general recovery time for plastic surgery?
For most procedures, patients need to recover at home for a week or two. After about 6 weeks, most patients should be back to normal activity.

Where will my surgery be done?
Dr. Coolidge performs minor surgeries in-office. Surgeries requiring anesthesia are done at Coastal Carolina Medical Center, a fully accredited hospital just minutes from our Bluffton/Hardeeville office.

How does Botox® work, and how long does it last?
Botox® temporarily paralyzes the injected muscle. The treatment starts working within a week of the injection, and can last as long as three months.

If I have liposuction, will the fat come back?
No. Liposuction permanently removes fat cells, but the fat cells that remain can still grow if you gain weight. Liposuction is indicated for treatment of localized fatty deposits, and should not be considered for overall weight reduction.

What’s the difference between Saline & Silicone Breast Implants?
Saline implants are filled with salt water (similar to IV fluid). Silicone implants are filled with a gel. Most patients think Silicone implants look and feel more natural. Silicone implants are now available to all patients after recent FDA approval. Visit Allergan Breast Implants for more information. Dr. Coolidge will address important safety considerations during your consultation.

I have older Silicone Breast Implants. Should I have them checked??
Any Silicone Implants 20 years or older need to be checked for potential leaks. If your implants are hard or painful, please call our office right away.

Tell me about Restylane filler.
Restylane is an in-office procedure with immediate results. It is most commonly used to plump up lips, fill wrinkles and fine lines, and make acne scars disappear. Restylane fillers last about 6 months.

How much will my surgery cost?
It all depends. The total cost of your surgery has three components: the surgeon’s fee, the anesthesia fee, and the operating room expenses. Other factors to consider include the number of procedures and the duration of your surgery. Dr. Coolidge can give you a precise estimate during your consultation.

What type of Financial Assistance is available?
